Ubud: A Unique Tourist Town in Bali
61Ubud is located in north east of Denpasar and about 20 km away. It is one and half hour drive from busy touristy area such Kuta, Legian and Seminyak. Although it less touristy than Kuta, over the years there are more and more visitors coming to Ubud. Ubud does not offer night life, shop until your drop life style shopping. It offers a different life style, a calm and relax style where you go to sleep at 10 AM every night instead of 4 in the morning.
The main Ubud has many attractions. Ubud market at the center of Ubud has its own appeal. Everyday tourists flock in the Ubud market to buy souvenirs and hagle over prices. You will find the merchandise are sold all over the island, but the experience to shop in Ubud market is not to be missed.
Other places in Ubud are the monkey forest where you can feed monkeys and take photos with them. The Ubud palace is another interesting place to visit to see how the Ubud palace looks like. There are many restaurants and shops along the main road that you can browse ranging from Indonesian food, Chinese food and European food. There is even the most popular Balinese food stall called Ibu Oka located close to the palace.
Another reason for people to come to Ubud is that Ubud is popular for the place to learn Yoga, meditation and spiritual healing. You can meet with the Balinese healers, Yoga practitioner who would be happy to assist you in your learning. Besides there well known intentional spiritual teacher who stay in Ubud.
So, this what makes Ubud become unique and has its own attraction that you will not get in other tourist place in Bali. Bear in mind that if you come to Ubud on the peak season such as July and August, the street can be quite busy and nasty. You can get stuck in traffic jam on your way to Ubud because there are many people go to Ubud at those time. Besides, it is not easy to find accommodation in the centre of Ubud because they are usually fully booked.
There are many hotels and villas located in Ubud and its surrounding area. And the good news is that it is easier to find hotels or Bali villas for rent in the outskirt of Ubud.
Ubud is a big place to wander around. You can easily walk in the center, but you will not walk everyday because the sun is quite hot. There is no taxi around Ubud, nor there is public transport. The only way to do it is getting freelance driver that stands up by the street offering their transport service. You may need to negotiate the price a bit.
